The Refactory, Inc.
was founded in 1998 by five internationally recognized experts on
patterns, frameworks, refactoring, and object-oriented design. Our staff offers a unique blend of
practical experience and research acumen. Each brings doctoral
level skills, along with as much as twenty-one years of professional
programming experience to the table. All told, the Refactory
Inc.'s partners have a total of over 80 years of combined software
development experience with over 50 years dedicated to Object-Oriented
development.
John Brant, Brian Foote, Don Roberts, Ralph Johnson, and Joseph Yoder are internationally recognized experts in software development,
especially in object-oriented technology. We've been studying and
developing software since 1973. Our current focus has been
object-oriented technology, software architecture, and patterns. We have
developed frameworks using Smalltalk, Java, and C++, have helped design several applications, and mentored many
new Java, Smalltalk, C#, and C++ developers.
The principals of The
Refactory, Inc. have been pioneers of the Patterns movement since its
inception. We have published over 70 patterns. Ralph, Brian, Don, and
Joe were the conference chairs for four of the Pattern Languages of
Programs Conferences
(PLoP).
We have also been highly web-enabled since its
early introduction primarily since our group evolved from the same place
that Mosaic and the early web work was done (at NCSA). We have all
developed web applications using different technologies since the early
90's.
We enjoy building elegant and successful systems, helping people
succeed, and learning new things. We want to continue to provide
analysis, design, and mentoring and to
write papers that reflect these
experiences.
