John Brant has over ten years Smalltalk
experience with four in VisualAge Smalltalk. He is the co-author (with
Don Roberts) of the freely available Refactoring Browser and Smalllint
tools. He has also worked on the HotDraw structured drawing framework
for VisualWorks. During the past year John has worked with Synchrony
Systems on their Smalltalk Migration Tool (SMT) integrating the
Refactoring Browser’s parsing and rewriting technology into the SMT
tool. Part of this work has also included being involved in several
migration projects using the tool to migrate from Visual Smalltalk
Enterprise (VSE) to VisualAge Smalltalk. He has also worked at various
companies including those from banking, telecommunications, automotive,
pharmaceutical, and insurance industries. John has also given
presentations to the European Smalltalk User Group’s summer school, Smalltalk
Solutions, ECOOP, and OOPSLA conferences.
John has done Smalltalk work on a consulting basis for Sprint, Strategic
Data Systems, Abbott Labs, Washington Water & Power, First Union
Bank, American Express Financial Advisors, Deluxe Corp., and North
American Lighting.
John has a B.S. and an M.S in Computer
Science from the University of Illinois. He is currently pursuing
a Ph.D. in Computer Science.
